As a general rule taller uprights and longer grands are preferred by many pianists as they have a larger tonal range available when compared with lower/shorter models. This is a reflection of the longer strings and larger sound-board area of the bigger instruments. However, there are circumstances where a smaller piano is more appropriate for various reasons, and so it’s important to be able to compare various options in one place.
