Craftsmanship through four generations
The piano is a complex musical instrument containing over 5000 parts, and the repair and restoration of pianos is a highly skilled process. As with all craft-based industries, and perhaps especially with traditional skills like piano restoration, which have changed so little over the years, there's no substitute for experience. So, as one of the oldest established piano dealerships in the country, with a fully equipped restoration workshop, our wealth of experience passed from artisan to apprentice over the years guarantees that our restoration work is always of the highest quality, and great pride is taken in it.
There are often situations where a modern piano isn't appropriate, either aesthetically or musically, and we specialise in the sympathetic restoration of high quality old English and German pianos, both uprights and grands, taking great care to retain the original playing characteristics of the pianos wherever possible. Many of these pianos were extremely well made using excellent quality materials, and careful restoration enables them to give good service for decades to come. We combine the finest quality replacement parts with our detailed knowledge and extensive experience, to restore these wonderful old instruments to their best playing condition.
In addition to the restoration of our stock of used pianos for sale, we are able to carry out all types of repairs to customers pianos, from a broken hammer to a complete mechanical rebuild. Major restoration work is time consuming and can be costly, and so a full appraisal is made of the piano to ensure that the work is viable, before a detailed estimate is prepared. In some cases repairs are carried out on site, or some parts of the piano are brought in for repair. In other cases where the whole piano needs to come to the workshop for a major restoration, we transport the instrument ourselves, and a loan piano can be provided.
