Old-fashioned service

Pianos need tuning regularly to maintain them in the best condition. Tuning is a highly skilled process which involves adjusting the tension of the strings to compensate for the gradual effect that atmospheric changes and playing have on the piano. The frequency of tuning varies according to the individual piano and the environment that it is kept in. As a general rule for a piano in a domestic situation, an older piano could need tuning twice a year, especially if the temperature and humidity vary widely in the room, whereas for a more modern piano annual tuning will often be sufficient. For teachers and pianos in educational situations more frequent tuning may be needed, and we can give advice on what would best suit your circumstances, and visit on either a regular contract basis, or as and when required.

All our tuning is carried out in the traditional way, by ear, without the use of electronics, employing skills passed on from craftsman to apprentice over a long training period. We pride ourselves on the quality of our tuning, our care and our punctuality, and we work for a number of families who have used White and Sentance's tuning service for two or three generations!

Our tuning list includes over 700 pianos which we maintain on a regular basis, including domestic, educational and concert work. We make regular tuning visits throughout most of Lincolnshire, in and around Lincoln, Louth, Horncastle, Spilsby, Skegness, Boston, Holbeach, Spalding, Bourne, Sleaford and Grantham, and parts of Nottinghamshire including Newark and Southwell. Most of Rutland including Oakham and Uppingham is also within our tuning area. This substantial number of customers means that we hardly ever need to make a special journey, even for an urgent tuning, allowing more efficient use of time and keeping costs down.
